English Recorder MusicDan Laurin and Anna Paradiso - recorder and piano
with Annabel Knight and Robin Bigwood - recorder and piano
Wednesday 4th August, 7.30pm
Court Room, Christ's Hospital School
This international double-bill rediscovers the drama and beauty of the British recorder-piano repertoire since 1940, much of it commissioned by the remarkable twentieth century virtuoso, Carl Dolmetsch. Classic original works by York Bowen, Walter Leigh, Robin Milford, Gordon Jacob and Cyril Scott combine angular, post-war economy of means with a compelling sense of intensity and romanticism. And in the true spirit of Dolmetsch, the programme includes a new commission by British composer, Timothy Coker.
